At the beginning of yoga practice it is common to set an intention. Mind Body Green defines an intention as “bringing your attention and awareness to a quality or virtue you wish to cultivate for your practice both on and off of your mat. Some examples of qualities or virtues you might use as your intention include: patience, gratitude, grace, being present in the moment, awareness of breath, love, forgiveness, letting go, releasing negativity, being open to receive, inner strength, or peacefulness.”
Yoga is a great workout, but one of the main blessings is carrying what I learn over into my daily life. Over the summer I plan to set monthly intentions to give my life focus, direction and a positive push forward.
Spiritual life: Spend dedicated personal time in the word daily. Pray specifically for my husband and children each day and by name. Quality: Notice the things I am grateful for and give thanks for them.
Family Life: Be more intentional about planning family adventures. Set boundaries around personal time and family time. Quality: Learn to be present in the moment.
Homeschool: Spend 1 hour per weekday studying/prepping for the coming year. Quality: Trusting God and seeking peace.
Health: Try one new healthy, whole foods recipe per week. Saving wine for the weekends (is it Friday yet?). Quality: Releasing harmful habits, receiving new habits.
Fitness: 10 minutes on my mat in the morning daily. 20 minutes daily of other exercise. Quality: Awareness of breath, inner strength, releasing negativity.
Blogging: 3 posts per week goal: Fitting in Fitness, Poetry Tea Tuesdays, and one other post of author’s choice. Quality: Letting go, being open to receive.
***Note to self: Lay all plans before the Lord.
Unless the LORD builds the house, They labor in vain who build it; Unless the LORD guards the city, The watchman keeps awake in vain.
